The Design of the Christan Church (Disciples of Christ) Preamble:
As members of the Christian Church, we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by his grace we accept our mission of witness and service to all people. We rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in God’s covenant of love which binds us to God and to one another. Through baptism into Christ, we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit, we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ. At the Table of the Lord, we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ. Within the universal church, we receive the gift of ministry and the light of scripture. In the bonds of Christian faith, we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose kingdom has no end. Blessing, glory, and honor be to God forever. Amen.
At First Christian Church
In Matters of Faith – there is Unity
We hold absolute that Jesus is Lord of all as revealed in Scripture.
In the Real of Opinions – there is Liberty
The Gospel message cannot be compromised but the methods and mechanics of delivering that message can vary. Where the Scriptures clearly speak – they will be our authoritative guide. Where the Scriptures are silent – we will listen to each other’s wisdom. There may be times we agree to disagree if the Scriptures are not definitive and we are weighing subjective understandings.
In All Things – there is to be Love
Other than our allegiance to Jesus as Lord, the most pronounced witness of our discipleship will be the courteous, respectful, forgiving and encouraging treatment extended to each other. We will honor and be faithful to each other.
Our Strategy includes –
Growing deeper through the study of the Scriptures.
Growing closer through authentic, relational fellowship.
Growing larger in influence in numbers through evangelism, benevolence, and service.
Growing higher through purposeful, wide-angle, heart penetrating worship.
Through this we hope to move people along the following faith development path:
sinner – seeker – saved (believer) – servant – steward
Faithful, until called home.
